Conor McGregor backs down in Tyson Fury row after old video resurfaces

Conor McGregor has brought an end to his war of words with Tyson Fury after an old interview of the boxing world champion praising McGregor resurfaced.

McGregor had launched a tirade at Fury when the heavyweight tweeted his support for Khabib Nurmagomedov who retired from the UFC in 2020.

The Irishman took aim at Fury for not getting involved in a ringside brawl at the Canelo Alvarez vs Billly Joe Saunders fight last year.

"Yup the Joyces. Big Joe! U bottled it with Billy joe Da, what were you doing there ? U Left him, Versace t*** U. Done. Nothing, McGregor wrote to Fury on Twitter.

"Ya’s did it right ye right hahahahaaj. Even when I’m wrong i’m right. Who did it right ? The Mac daddy tonight, in house. Miami d12! Bahamas."

Fury later responded by referring to McGregor's assault on a customer in a Dublin pub for which he was later fined.

"Come back when u win a fight mush," he said. "And the difference in me and you is i don’t get myself in trouble and people actually like me, you're just a bully who hit old man."

Fury followed that up with another tweet referring to McGregor tapping out against Nurmagomadev and Nate Diaz.

"[ Conor McGregor ] has done more Tapping than MJ's old dance shoes," he wrote.

McGregor hit back with a couple of sexually-explicit tweets, which he later deleted, before a fan site drew attention to an interview in which Fury had praised McGregor.

He said: "Conor McGregor is MMA, isn't he? That's it. I couldn't name you three more fighters in MMA, I just couldn't."

Upon seeing the video, McGregor said: "It’s all good, we forget it. Fair play Tyson. God bless ya mate."

Fury is currently waiting for Dillian Whyte to sign his part of the contract for their heavyweight clash.

Fury's promoter Frank Warren won the purse bids with a record £31million offer, of which Fury will receive 80 per cent.

The clash is due to be held at Wembley on April 23 with the winner likely to then take on the winner of Anthony Joshua's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk which is pencilled in for May.
