Conor McGregor sends armed guard to school with his kids after shooting scare

Conor McGregor has detailed how he sends an armed guard to school with his children while in America following a recent mass shooting.

The Irishman is in Orlando, Florida with his family - fiancee Dee Devlin and his three children Conor Jr, Croia and Rian - after wrapping filming on The Ultimate Fighter in Las Vegas alongside. But after hearing about a shooting in Green Hills, Nashville which claimed seven lives, McGregor is keen to take extra precautions.

Writing in a now-deleted tweet, the legendary former two-weight world champion noted that he was impressed with the 'Amber Alert' system in America, which notifies people in the area of potential child abductions. He also confirmed he has been sending armed guards to school with his kids since before the shooting in Tennessee.

"Just got an 'Amber alert' to my phone while here in Orlando," he wrote. "A smart and quick set up that alerts everyone there is a child missing and with full description and detail also. Very smart. I would like to see armed protection at each school also. I have had my children at school here while stateside and have had my own armed guard present at the school.

"This was prior to the most recent school shooting also. If she shot her way in to that school from the outside, my guard, who is tucked away, armed and unseen, would have seen her and taken her down. Saving those children’s lives. May God and his best people on this earth protect our children!"

McGregor's take that armed guards should be sent to schools in America amid rising fears over shootings proved divisive before the post was deleted. Some fans in the replies liked the idea, but he found himself in a brief spat when one told him to "grow up", to which he quickly responded "f*** off".

The Irishman is in America spending a final few weeks with his family enjoying the weather in Florida before he knuckles down and returns to an intensive training camp for his UFC comeback. He will face Michael Chandler after the pair coached opposite one another on this season of The Ultimate Fighter, but no date has been confirmed as yet for his return.

McGregor's main concern lies with the US Anti-Doping Agency, who have yet to clear him for competition after two years out of action, most of which was spent without being randomly tested. He insists that an exemption to their standard six month period is on the table once he passes two drugs tests, but the agency have not corroborated that story.
