Conor McGregor's self-help book which he claims set him on road to UFC stardom

Conor McGregor credited a self-help book which focuses on the law of attraction for his UFC success.

The 2006 book 'The Secret' by Rhonda Byrne is based on a film released earlier that year. It's based on the belief that someone can use the power of their mind to create their own reality and manifest good things to happen in their life.

Long before his fighting fame, McGregor was taking home welfare payments of £160 whilst working as a plumber. When he first watched the DVD version of 'The Secret', McGregor reacted by stating: “This is bulls*** — but then something clicked for me," he told The Sun.

It started with something as simple as visualising the exact parking space he and longtime partner Dee Devlin could get when they visited a local shopping centre. "We would be driving to the shop and visualising the exact car park space and then we’d be able to get it every time," McGregor added.

McGregor has used the law of attraction throughout his UFC career to predict his fights, which resulted in him being nicknamed 'Mystic Mac'. Perhaps the most fitting example of this is when he knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds to become the UFC featherweight champion.

Speaking of Aldo before the fight, McGregor said: "If I just go 'huh' [feints], he will react a million times too much. That's how I see the fight playing out. I see him overreacting, overextending, then KO'd unconscious."

McGregor's words proved true as knocked out Aldo in the first exchange they had. Footage from the Irishman's locker room later showing him practicing the exact punch that rendered the Brazilian unconscious.

Speaking to reporters after the win, he said: "If you can see it here [your mind] and you have the courage to speak it, then it will happen. I see these shots, I see these sequences and I don't shy away from them.

"A lot of times people believe in certain things but they keep it to themselves, they don't put it out there. If you truly believe in it and became vocal with it. You are creating that law of attraction and it will become reality."

McGregor is in the final stages of recovering from a broken tibia he suffered in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier last July. The former two-weight champion is unlikely to fight this year but wants to challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title in his comeback.
