Conor McGregor rival Dustin Poirier out of hospital after 'serious' foot infection

UFC star Dustin Poirier has left hospital after being admitted with a 'serious' foot infection.

The American lightweight star was taken into hospital on the 4th of December with a staph infection. The infection caused his foot to balloon in size, prompting Poirier to spend a number of days under medical supervision.

News of the fighter's hospitalisation had left his legion of fans worried. However, 'The Diamond' allayed these fears by taking to Instagram and sharing a post with his family that confirmed he was out of hospital and on the mend.

"Straight from the hospital to the school play to see my little angel this morning!" Poirier captioned the post.

The three-time former opponent of Conor McGregor is just four weeks removed from a stunning submission victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 281. On that night, Poirier made history as he became the first person to ever submit the durable Chandler.

Poirier was first taken to hospital last Sunday, with MMA reporter Brett Okamoto revealing the following day that he had spoken to Poirier who confirmed that it was a staph infection and that his body wasn't responding to antibiotics.

The next day, Poirier took to Twitter to share a snap of his infected foot in really bad condition.

"Wut da helllll," Poirier captioned the snap of his injured foot.

Unsurprisingly McGregor took to Twitter this week to comment on Poirier's condition. In a scathing post, 'The Notorious' wrote, "Karma, the left paw an all hahaja chop that thing off and keep it for Halloween pal hahahaha."

McGregor deleted this post soon after.

The Dubliner and the American have long been rivals and have fought each other on three different occasions in the UFC.

July 2021 is when the most recent bout took place. On that occasion, Poirier beat McGregor after the Irish star suffered a horrific leg-break at the end of the very first round. Despite the defeat, McGregor earned 33 million for five minutes of work.

The Irish star recently returned to Dublin to step up his training ahead of a potential return to the Octagon.
