Conor McGregor mocks and laughs at UFC rival Kamaru Usman as he's brought to hospital after fight

Conor McGregor mocked Kamaru Usman after the welterweight champion was knocked out by Leon Edwards in their UFC 278 title fight.

Usman was on his way to making the sixth defence of his title against Edwards in their rematch, being up on the judges' scorecards heading into the final round of the fight. Usman was untroubled in the fifth round and was cruising his way to a decision win, but Edwards landed a Hail Mary head kick that rendered the champion unconscious as he suffered his first UFC loss.

McGregor unsurprisingly weighed in on the pound-for-pound No.1's defeat. The Dubliner wrote "Hahahahahhhahajaaj" just moments after Usman was knocked out and continued to mock him in a series of tweets as the dust settled. "Mi no lika the boi no sleep dem man hahahaha t*** got t****ed," he wrote. McGregor also added: "Usman gonna come out saying he from Pluto after that smack hahah Marty green pants from Pluto."

There was no denying the technique of Edwards' picture-perfect high kick, but McGregor begged to differ. The former two-weight champion said Usman was at fault for leaning into the strike, writing: "Not even a relatively high kick. Fully leaned into his own death. One leaned his way to victory. Another leaned his way to death. Crazy sport, I love!"

McGregor and Edwards both share the same management label in Paradigm Sports. The Crumlin man congratulated 'Rocky' on his title win and doubled down on his hopes of competing for the welterweight title in his return, before reminding the rest of the 170lb division they are all "s**** bags".

"I’d love a crack at this title somewhere down the line gimme gimme gimme," he wrote before later adding. "Ya’s’r all s**** bags don’t forget it." McGregor wanted to face Usman in his comeback fight, but those plans could now change after he lost his belt to Edwards. 'Notorious' previously downplayed Usman's abilities by labelling him a "jab happy wrestler" with sloppy technique.

"No one’s ever obtained three UFC world titles cross three divisions like I will do. I feel confident against Usman. A jab happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he going to do? Where’s the danger here? I don’t see a danger with him. His ground-and-pound isn’t strong, plus he’s on the older side," he told The Mac Life.
