Conor McGregor makes request to Floyd Mayweather's dad in backstage meeting

UFC star Conor McGregor told Floyd Mayweather 's dad he "would love" to train with him in an impromptu backstage meeting.

McGregor, 34, bumped into Mayweather Sr whilst the pair were both in attendance to watch Gervonta Davis knockout Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas on Saturday night. McGregor, who was stopped by Mayweather in their illustrious 2017 'Money Fight', shared his respect for the boxing legend's dad and said he is the reason the former five-weight world champion went unbeaten in 50 professional fights.

In a video captured by Full Combat, Mayweather Sr can be heard saying to the UFC star: "Everything you're talking about I already know." McGregor then praised the coach by saying: "Every time you'd finish on about six jabs. You're the reason, I'd love to do work with you someday."

A crossover between McGregor and Mayweather Sr wouldn't be that surprising as the trainer has coached several of his son's former opponents such as Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya in the past. It's also not the first time McGregor and Mayweather Sr have been in good spirits whilst bumping into each other, as the 70-year-old gatecrashed McGregor's press conference before he fought 'Money'.

McGregor has opened the door to a boxing return after his UFC career is over and the former two-weight champion will make his return to the octagon later this year against Michael Chandler. 'Notorious' hasn't fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight almost two years ago, as he is now without a win in over three years.

Mayweather Sr wasn't the only big name in boxing that McGregor bumped into over the weekend as the Irishman also visited Garcia's locker room after his loss to 'Tank'. McGregor praised Garcia for his performance on the night and encouraged him to pursue a rematch against Davis, but this time without a rehydration clause as both men had to weigh under 146lb on fight day.

"He’s 1-0 on you, you’re the two biggest names in the division, I want to see it again," McGregor told Garcia. "I want to see it again now, and I want to see it with no rehydration clause. Seriously. All the respect in the world to you. You’re the future, you’re the future of this game, and I’m going to watch you all the way."
