Conor McGregor hints at WWE future as company merges with UFC

Conor McGregor has hinted that his future may lie in the WWE as the company merged with the UFC to form a new entertainment giant.

World Wrestling Entertainment has been sold to Endeavor Group - which also owns UFC - for $9.3 billion in a staggering deal.

And a potential implication of the deal might see UFC star McGregor trying his hand at professional wrestling.

McGregor, 34, seemed to suggest this when he posted a mocked-up picture of himself on social media holding both a UFC belt and a WWE championship title belt.

He tweeted the image with an emoji of the Republic of Ireland and American flags and the caption: '@wwe, @ufc, @TheMacLife #itsinevitable'.

McGregor would not be the first UFC star to transition into wrestling, with Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey doing so in recent years.

Although it would represent a u-turn of sorts, as the Dubliner has mocked wrestling stars previously.

He said in an interview: "What's the main guy? John Cena. He's 40, walking around in a luminous orange t-shirt and a headband talking about 'nobody can see him'.

"We can see him right there. He's a big fat 40-year-old failed Mr Olympian mother****er. Do you know what I mean? They're dweebs, these guys."

In the immediate future, McGregor is preparing to face veteran Michael Chandler in the octagon later this year.

McGregor has not fought since suffering a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
