Conor McGregor follows Chelsea £3bn takeover claim with bizarre video featuring Roman Abramovich

UFC fighter Conor McGregor has further referenced his potential intentions to buy Chelsea after posting an intriguing video to social media.

The west London club are currently in the process of being put up for sale and Roman Abramovich confirmed his intentions to sell in a written statement on Chelsea’s official website.

It read: "I would like to address the speculation in media over the past few days in relation to my ownership of Chelsea FC. As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart.

"In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the Club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the Club, the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners."

Amid the aftermath of the Abramovich’s confirmation, various names came to the fore regarding the club’s future ownership, with the more viable candidates including the likes of Hansjorg Wyss and Todd Boehly.

One surprise name was also in the immediate running though - Conor McGregor.

The Irishman took to Twitter to express his interest in buying the club as he captioned a Whatsapp screenshot with “I wish to explore this @ChelseaFC”.

He has now followed that up with a further post showing an animated version of himself in a Chelsea press conference and at Cobham, having presumably been named the club’s new owner.

McGregor was also shown meeting Blues star Mason Mount, as well as having a chat with current owner Roman Abramovich on the training pitches.

He also provided another intriguing caption reading: “Push it to the limit! @ChelseaFC”

Whether this is McGregor just having a bit of fun with the hysteria around the club’s ownership remains to be seen but it certainly gives fans a slight insight as to what 33-year-old would look like should he complete a purchase in the near future.
