Conor McGregor has admitted he never fires the "first shot" after labelling an online troll a "prune head".
The Irishman is one of the most high-profile stars in sport and is known for his sensational career in the UFC which has seen him reign as a former two-weight champion. He is also famous for his brash-talking antics and presence on social media where he has taken on feuds against the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jake Paul.
McGregor is a frequent attractor of online trolls which he has been known to respond to in the past after losing his cool with a number of comments. Most recently McGregor hit back at a troll, tweeting: "Lord almighty say less bro. You look like a baby grandpa. @yungsalick you baby prune head."

The troll hit back writing "LMAO" after he saw McGregor had responded, before the Irishman explained his reason for picking the battle, tweeting again: "Despite contrary belief, I never fire the first shot in verbal warfare or disrespect. I end it with bombs that obliterate the original comments or remarks but I never fire first. Live fighting on the other hand, of course, I charge out the gate like I play in the NFL."
McGregor frequently gets trolled online particularly recently for the decline of his UFC career as he holds just one victory in his last four fights in the octagon since his boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2017. Most famously in his lengthy response to persistent negative comments online, McGregor posted a rambling message back in 2020, writing: "I will never kill myself no matter how many wish for it.
"Try set me up all yous f***ing want over and over and over the truth will always set me free! Never will I fold! The truth is the truth and it gives me wings! I know my character! God bless DNA! God bless CCTV! God bless Eye witness! God bless the truth! The truth is power! I am free!
"Never will a dime be paid to anyone coming at me with vicious lies! Not now not f***ing ever! I will fight! And I am only beginning my fight! I will not allow these people to just accuse me and then disappear into the dark to attempt to ruin someone else's life! No f***ing way!"
McGregor is currently taking time outside of the cage to continue his rehabilitation after breaking his leg following his second consecutive defeat to Dustin Poirier last year. He has been holidaying around Europe but is expected to knuckle down and focus on his return which could be next year.
A number of tests have been proposed to McGregor when he makes his return to the UFC including a shot against Charles Oliveira and an immediate assault on the title which is currently held by Briton Leon Edwards.
