Conor McGregor edits social media post to remove criticism of fellow UFC star

Conor McGregor has edited a social media post to remove a dig claiming he could kick "nicer and faster" than Leon Edwards.

McGregor hasn't fought since last July where he broke his leg in a consecutive defeat to Dustin Poirier, but he has been gradually stepping up his training as he continues his rehabilitation. The Irishman has been extremely active on social media since the defeat and has issued scathing criticisms of many UFC stars including retired fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov and his protege Islam Makhachev.

Most recently McGregor appeared to take a shot at newly-crowned UFC champion Edwards when posting a video of himself landing high kicks on Instagram, with the caption: "Here is a rendition of the UFC's 170lb champion Leon Edwards finishing left high kick from last weekends title fight that quenched him the title. I do it nicer. And faster. And I'd have done it in the first round."

He later removed that part of the caption taking aim at Edwards and lead with a new rambling speech in its place, writing: " I’m whipping my stock real tasty lately. Tastier than ever. Do you ever get a bang of a bike saddle at a oner? And the bike saddle starts as a whip? Ye that’s it. Bye head. Now ask yourself this. Can you whip up a head kick in a blink? Head kick like a jab? Why not, stupid? Can’t even touch your toes you tick.

"I'm not even working low or to the body anymore. Get to the top of the mountain and work your way down is the way! The possibilities are limitless and opportunity endless when you can whip a high kick like a jab and do it out of nowhere and at any time. Think about it? To get that range and length and balance and whip you need to back pocket the lower tier kicks, guys.

"Free game on the house, kids. I kick this pad dead central and then I kick it above at the very top of the pad to demonstrate I can go way higher with ease. My stock is Mr Whippy." Edwards recently produced a sensational highlight-reel KO to defeat Kamaru Usman and claim the 170lb strap earlier this month.

McGregor had originally congratulated his UFC counterpart and initially reacted to the KO by mocking Usman which also drew some criticism from fighters and fans in the sport. This includes welterweight contender Belal Muhammad who was upset with McGregor's reaction.

"Even Conor McGregor, who knows how it feels to lose in a championship fight, he knows what it feels to lose in front of family," he said on the The Writer vs. The Fighter podcast: These guys that kick a guy when he's down, it just shows what kind of person they are. They're just looking for that attention."
