Conor McGregor details daily diet after bulking up to 190lb for UFC return

Conor McGregor has broken down what he eats in a day after bulking up to 190lb ahead of his UFC return later this year.

McGregor has been sidelined since breaking his tibia against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight last July. The Irishman looks to a third UFC title to his collection in his return after calling welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for his comeback.

Having fought at 145lbs for most of his career, McGregor's physique has drastically changed since breaking his leg. Piling on a lot of muscle, he laid out a typical day of eating whilst speaking with McGregor FAST. "Eggs, potatoes, maybe some mushroom," McGregor said of his breakfast. "A green juice, maybe spinach and kale or it could be spinach on the side.

Then maybe some fruit, a strawberry smoothie or some strawberries, watermelon and pineapple. That would be a good, fully fuelled breakfast. I'd do breakfast, have a pre-workout and then workout. I'd workout, come home and eat my lunch. Maybe a rice dish, a root vegetable, sweet potato mash and maybe some chicken, depending what the next session is.

"It pays off majorly, all the small details of it make the big details. I go back to the structure, wake up and train at a certain time. Structure is the key to real success, you can't be on the fly."

The Irishman recently confirmed his plans to return at welterweight with Mirror Fighting, stating he feels good at the weight class. "I'm looking forward to getting back into the octagon," he said. "We'll see what happens, the leg's getting better every day, I think 170 is where I'm aiming for, I feel good at this weight."

McGregor has fought at 170lb three times in the UFC. He boasted about eating "steaks for breakfast" when he debuted at 170-pounds against late replacement Nate Diaz in 2016 as the American went on to hand McGregor his first-ever UFC loss.

The Irishman insisted on rematching Diaz at welterweight instead of his favoured 155lb and it worked out for him, winning their second fight by decision. McGregor didn't fight at 170lb for another three years, knocking out journeyman Donald Cerrone at the weight class in 2020.

Welterweight champion Usman is pencilled to defend his belt against top contender Leon Edwards in July, but he has reportedly been made an offer to step aside and allow a fight between Usman and McGregor instead.
