Conor McGregor blasts Islam Makhachev, his fighting style after recent UFC win: ‘I’ll fight that sh*t stain’

Much has been made about when, where and which opponent Conor McGregor will face in his likely 2022 return to action.

While fight fans seemingly won’t ever see McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) rematch his bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, he indicated in a tweet Friday he’s open to making the next closest matchup happen: a bout against Islam Makhachev (22-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC).

“I’ll fight that sh*t stain makchavich, no sweat,” McGregor said. “Embarrassing g’n’p the other night imo. Pitiful punching. And then bottles the rda fight after mouthing of him lol. Embarrassing. Watch when I come back. Same as before. Anyone. Any weight. Anywhere. Game full of sh*t stains.”

Makhachev, 30, returned to action this past Saturday when he defeated short-notice replacement Bobby Green via first-round stoppage by ground-and-pound at UFC Fight Night 202. The win extended Makhachev’s streak to 10 including victories over Green, Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises, and Arman Tsarukyan.

“Full mount g’n’p and the guy bounces up not a scratch, huggin and kissin,” McGregor wrote in a series of follow-up tweets. “Talkin bout thanks for the match etc. If that’s me there’s holes left in their head like they been smacked with a sock full of golf balls. Don’t even know where they are. Caramel butter skin strikes again!”

After his victory Saturday, Makhachev was asked about a potential matchup against McGregor and laid out his terms. McGregor would need to win first.

“Honestly, I don’t remember when this guy beat someone,” Makhachev told MMA Junkie and other reporters during a post-fight news conference. “He have to come back, beat someone, then let’s go.”

McGregor, 33, has only competed four times since the start of 2017. He’s gone 1-3 in that stretch with two losses to Poirier and one to Khabib Nurmagomedov. But that hasn’t stopped the biggest pay-per-view attraction in MMA history from angling for a shot at title gold.

Currently in the late stages of rehab for a broken leg suffered against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, McGregor expects a July 2022 return. He revealed Friday his next leg scan is Monday.
