Conor McGregor blasted on social media after mocking PJ Gallagher’s mental health issues

Conor McGregor is being widely slated on social media after he made fun of actor PJ Gallagher’s mental health issues.

The MMA star fired off a tweet mocking The Young Offenders star who has spoken about how he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Fighter Conor, 34, posted a now-deleted tweet tagging the actor – describing him as a “sad c***” whose wife had left him.

The Notorious also called the actor a “sad b******” who has “gone crying” to the papers about depression and instructed him instead to “sit up and smile”. It is believed the former UFC world champ was furious after the comedian and DJ along with many Twitter users suggested that the fighter was an embarrassment to Ireland.

It began when American TV presenter Laura Sanko mistakenly named Conor McGregor on her list of the top five active UK fighters in the UFC. After it was pointed out that the fighter was in fact from Dublin she quickly admitted her mistake.

While there were some comments on social media criticising the geographic blunder there were others who wanted the UK to be allowed to take fighter Conor. Among them was PJ who tweeted: “Normally this kind of thing [Britain claiming Irish sports stars] winds me up but they can have this lad.”

In his tweet, Conor also claimed PJ had the “posture of a prawn”. The actor responded by tweeting: “Excuse me! It took years of hard work and awkward walking to get the posture of a prawn. I am delicious!”

Former Fine Gael TD Noel Rock hit out at McGregor, tweeting: “His capacity to hit new lows never ceases to amaze me.” One Twitter user wrote: “His [McGregor’s] response to someone’s post about being admitted to a mental health facility sums him up.”

Another supporter tweeted: “PJ Gallagher is more of a role model than McGregor.” Another social media user called Janie-Mac wrote: “Anyone who thinks someone suffering with and talking about their mental health issues is worthy of mockery is a scumbag.”
