Conor McGregor and Dee Devlin's love story: How the UFC star met 'good girl' from Walkinstown

Irish MMA superstar Conor McGregor and his fiancee Dee Devlin are one of Ireland's most well-known couples ever since 'The Notorious' shot to fame in 2013, and this week they are enjoying a break in the south of France with their family.

In the years since the loved up couple met, they have welcomed three children; Conor Jr, 5, Croia, 3, and one-year-old baby Rian.

The couple are currently on holiday in the French Riviera and recently marked a double celebration by throwing a party to celebrate their two sons' birthdays, while also enjoying a test drive in Conor's new Lamborghini yacht.

Their love story first started in 2008, when a young 19-year-old Conor was training and dreaming of becoming an MMA fighter.

When did Conor meet Dee?

In 2008, young Conor McGregor had just quit a plumbing apprenticeship to chase his dream of becoming a mixed martial arts champion when he spotted Walkinstown native Dee in a nightclub.

The UFC star told VIP magazine: "I asked her to come over and we just started chatting.

"She seemed like a nice girl, and I like good girls."

Meanwhile, Dee was also smitten by the charming Crumlin native and said there was an instant attraction.

She said: "He’s very funny – he always keeps me entertained and makes me laugh."

How did their relationship fare as Conor's MMA career took off?

In April 2013, Conor McGregor burst onto the MMA scene after winning 'Knockout of the Night' at his debut UFC fight in Sweden, and Dee was right behind him from the start.

She told VIP magazine: "He was already training when I met him, so I really admired his dedication to that."

Conor, meanwhile, already had the couple's future mapped out: "I’m doing this to secure my family’s future and Dee’s future. One day, I want myself and Dee to be able to chill on a beach and not have any worry in the world.

"That’s why I’m doing this. I want to be financially secure by the time I have kids. When that happens, I want to be ready."

In July 2015 ahead of his victory over Chad Mendes that saw him named interim UFC featherweight champion, Conor opened up about how important Dee is in his life and career.

He told MMAFighting: "My girlfriend has been there since the start. She has helped me throughout this career. If it wasn't for her, I probably wouldn't be where I am today.

In December 2015, Conor was crowned undisputed UFC featherweight champion after knocking out opponent Jose Aldo in 13 seconds, and front and centre was Dee who proudly cheered him on.

Partners in life and business

Over the years, Conor McGregor has made several successful business ventures outside the ring, most notably his whiskey brand Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey.

Launched in 2018 and named after the Crumlin neighbourhood in Dublin 12 where he grew up, Conor promoted his Proper No.12 whiskey on his Instagram account and drank it with celebrities including Jose Mourinho, Justin Bieber, and UFC boss Dana White.

In April 2021, US drinks giant Proximo Spirits purchased Proper 12 from McGregor and his business partners, resulting in a $150m payday for the Dubliner.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor is also the proud owner of The Black Forge Inn pub, which he bought in 2019, and the UFC star along with partner Dee and their close family and friends often pop in for a drink at the well-known Crumlin bar.

In recent weeks the Dubliner, 33, has been enjoying a break with his partner Dee Devlin and their three children abroad.

While out on their Lamborghini yacht, the couple treated themselves to cocktails from what McGregor described as a 'floating cocktail boat'.

Posting pictures of himself and Dee enjoying the drinks, Conor revealed his desire to get into the cocktail business.

He said: "Cocktails are very interesting to me. For the boost that good cocktails give to the on premise industry it is surprising to me that it has yet to be formulated to off premise also.

"There is a real market for off premise cocktails, mixed to tasty perfection... I am in the early stages of formulating my world renowned @theblackforgeinn cocktails in neat, handy, and slick to use packaging, mixed to absolute identical perfection by our master mixologists and voila!

"You have the best cocktails in the world at the ready, whenever, and wherever you need. Efficient and delicious."
