Conor Gallagher sends classy message to Chelsea fans after joining Atletico Madrid

Conor Gallagher has bid an emotional farewell to Chelsea after sealing a protracted move to Atletico Madrid.

The England international signed a five-year contract with the LaLiga giants on Wednesday in a deal believed to be worth around £33m, ending an 18-year association with the Blues in the process.

Gallagher’s move to Madrid had been hanging the balance after Chelsea’s move for Atletico forward Samu Omorodion collapsed but a breakthrough was found earlier this week.

The midfielder had flown to Spain to complete a move earlier this month but was brought back to London and trained away from the club’s first-team squad.

Joao Felix, however, is now set to leave the Spanish club for Stamford Bridge, returning to the Blues after a loan spell during the second half of the 2022-23 campaign.

Posting on Instagram after the move to Atletico was confirmed, Gallagher said: “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true. It’s been an absolute honor every time I put on the shirt, and it was a dream come true to captain the team on many occasions. I loved every moment.

“These memories will last forever. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans. Hearing the chant of my name at the Bridge is a special feeling, and the banner you displayed meant the world to me. Thank you for everything. I wish the club all the best for the future, and I hope to see you all soon at Stamford Bridge!”
