Conor Coady makes Newcastle United admission as Wolves star closes in on Everton move

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Conor Coady has told of his love of St James' Park and playing against Newcastle United on Tyneside.

It comes as the England international looks to set to leave Molineux, with fresh reports emerging on Sunday claiming Everton are set to beat West Ham to the signing of the defender. The Wolves skipper had missed just one of his side’s 152 matches since they were promoted to the Premier League in 2018, but was left on the bench as Wolves lost 2-1 at Leeds United on Saturday.

He looks set to fall victim to Bruno Lage’s switch from a back-five to a back-four, as the Portuguese manager opted for a defensive pairing of Nathan Collins and Max Kilman at Elland Road. And if he does secure his move to Everton, he'll be relishing October's trip to play Newcastle.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, he said: “My favourite one I enjoy playing at in the Premier League is probably Newcastle, St James Park. [It’s a] fantastic ground, I think the atmosphere created up there is incredible.

"I think the way they back the team and push the team as much as they can is brilliant. But for an opposing team, you are fighting against them as well as the team, which is something we relish and enjoy doing as a team.

“It’s tough because it’s such an intimidating place to go and play football. Driving up to it, you see St James’ Park from a mile away, so you know where you are going and you know the atmosphere you’re going to get.”
