Conor Benn's father appears to confirm son will face Chris Eubank Jr in grudge match

Conor Benn's father Nigel has claimed his son wants a fight with Chris Eubank Jr next.

Benn has been out of action since an explosive KO victory over Chris Van Heerden earlier this year and was promised a big fight by promoter Eddie Hearn to step up his career further. The young star previously stated he was also willing to sidetrack his title hopes to meet Eubank Jr in a domestic grudge match if the pair could agree a catchweight.

Reports have indicated that Benn is set to meet Eubank Jr next with the event taking place as the first fight on DAZN's pay-per-view platform. His father Nigel has dropped the biggest hint yet that the fight is on, after responding to a fan on Twitter who questioned the fight: "This is what Conor wants, this won’t ruin Conor he’s not made like that. Well let’s see how he does. I’m backing him win lose or draw my friend."

He later responded to a survey asking fans who would win between his son and Eubank Jr, tweeting: "Back to the good old days my friend." Boxing legend Benn fought Eubank Jr's father Chris in an epic two-part rivalry which gripped the nation almost 32 years ago.

The pair first met in 1990 where Eubank extended his mean undefeated streak with a stoppage victory over his rival. This came before a bumper rematch billed 'Judgement Day' in 1993 which ended in a split draw after a huge build-up. It is likely both boxing legend's will be heavily involved in the storyline for the fight if it is set to be confirmed.

Daily Star reported that the event will likely land on October 8 at the O2 arena in London, despite both fighters' promoters Eddie Hearn and Kalle Sauerland moving to deny claims the fight will take place. According to the same report, the fight is expected to take place at a catchweight of 155lb which will see Benn move up and Eubank Jr required to make a significant cut.

Eubank Jr previously suggested that a fight would be unlikely to take place any time soon, but believes a potential fight would be an incredible spectacle for British fans. "If the fans wanna see it, if he can move up. What a fight that would be, that would be incredible. The two sons, Chris Eubank Jr. Conor Benn," Eubank Jr previously said when talking about a potential fight with iFLTV.

"The likelihood of it, I really doubt that it's gonna happen anytime soon. I see that as something that's probably gonna happen in years to come. When I've done everything I want to do at middleweight and we want to have a bit of fun down the line, but who knows."

He later added: "We're both doing big things in the boxing world. It doesn't make much sense right now. In a couple years, if Conor Benn fills out a little bit and I wanna have a bit of fun, we can get it on."
