On Saturday, February 3, Conor Benn will make a comeback to the ring against Peter Dobson in a pair of back-to-back American bouts at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
With a 10-round points victory over gruff Mexican Rodolfo Orozco, Benn (22-0, 14 KOs) from England made his first trip back through the ropes in 17 months in Orlando. In his quest for a world title in 2024, Benn, 27, who is now ranked #5 by the WBC, takes on Dobson in the Essex fighter’s first headline bout in the United States, lasting 12 rounds at Welterweight.
“Headlining in Vegas is a dream come true, not just for me, but for any fighter who grew up watching the sport of boxing. Vegas has been the stage for many legends before me, and I can’t wait to step into that arena on February 3rd against the undefeated Welterweight Peter Dobson, who stepped up to accept the challenge when many wouldn’t,” said Benn in media reports.
“I was disappointed when my previous fight fell through, but in this sport, when one door shuts, another one opens. This setback has brought me back to where I need to be, and I’m here to put the entire 147 division on notice,” he added.
“I want to thank my family, my dedicated team, my loyal friends, and fans who have supported me throughout my journey. We have an exciting 2024 ahead of us, starting with our Vegas debut, marking the beginning of our pursuit for World Welterweight championships,” he continued.
After two bouts with fighters from Matchroom falling through, Dobson (16-0, 9 KOs) from US has now secured the major fight he has been pursuing. The 33-year-old’s prior opponents were Caoimhin Agyarko and Pat McCormack, but if he wins on February 3, he might propel himself into consideration for the major bouts Benn is pursuing.
