Conor Benn explains diet plan to make weight for Chris Eubank Jr grudge fight

Conor Benn has detailed that he will eat a "high calorie" diet to make weight for his meeting with Chris Eubank Jr.

Benn will return to the ring in arguably the biggest fight of his career when he takes on British rival Eubank Jr on October 8 at London's O2 arena. The pair have been born into a rivalry which has stemmed from their father's legacies, who shared the ring 30 years ago before fighting in a rematch shortly afterwards.

Reports have indicated that the pair will meet at a catchweight of 157lb which will see Benn needing to put on 10lb in comparison to the 147lb limit he usually campaigns at. And 'The Destroyer' has revealed he is able to eat what he wants providing it is high in calories and healthy. “I don’t have to cut, it is about making sure I’m refuelled for my sessions and gaining a little bit of muscle,” Benn said via the Daily Star.

“I’m eating a lot. There’s plenty of things you can eat [to put on weight]. Anything high calorific. Peanut butter, toast, pasta, fish, I’m eating a lot of pasta and tuna. I don’t eat a lot of meat, I’m not a massive fan but I’ll have steak on Saturdays. I’m able to eat what I want, as long as it is healthy and clean.”

Benn will enter the ring in a huge fight for legacy, with his father Nigel having lost and drawn to his rival's father Eubank during their days as bitter rivals. The young star will be looking to continue to tread his undefeated path, and secure his 22nd professional victory.

The rising star has been campaigning at welterweight where he defeated Chris Van Heerden earlier this year to move into the top five of the division with every governing body. A whole host of options were understood to be on the table at his weight including a title eliminator with Keith Thurman, but Benn elected to take a huge domestic dust-up with Eubank Jr.

There is a sizeable difference in weight between the pair with Eubank Jr most recently campaigning at 160lb where he hasn't fought since defeating Liam Williams back in February. Benn has revealed that he agreed to Eubank Jr's suggestion of the weight, but there will be a weigh-in on the day to prevent either fighter missing the limit.

Yes there is," Benn told BBC 5Live when asked about a weigh-in on fight day. "You have got to remember the weight was suggested by him. Make sure you make it and not take the mick and come in three or four pounds heavier.

"That was the only concern, that’s why there was an issue for so long because clearly he never had any intention of making the weight. We didn’t go to him and tell him he had to make a certain weight, he suggested it and we agreed.”
