Connor Ronan admitted he moved to St Mirren because he believes they could help launch him into the Republic of Ireland set-up.
The on-loan Wolves playmaker saw his fellow Irishman Jamie McGrath get the call when he was at the Buddies and believed he could follow in his footsteps.
It proved to be the case when Stephen Kenny called the 24-year-old up for the Republic of Ireland's friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania.
Ronan, speaking to the St Mirren website, explained: “After seeing what Jamie (McGrath) had achieved the season before, and how that got him into the Ireland squad, played a big part in my decision to come to St Mirren.
"It has always been on the back of my mind when I have been on loan spells to Switzerland last season and here.
"It's something that I have been working towards since I’ve left playing for the U21s.
"I'm really looking forward to the full training camp in general - getting in with the lads, getting to know everyone and then the games are just there to top it off.
"I think it is the same for any new player, you want to go in and prove yourself that you are worthy of being there which is what I will go in and try to do."
Ronan will be hoping to make an instant impact like he has in Paisley. He has spent the last few days training with the Irish squad and his family can’t wait to see him pull on the green and white.
He confirmed: “"I had family up for Saturday's match and I am sure there will be a lot of them going over to Dublin.
"It's a massive honour and a really proud moment for me and my family.
“Along with my partner's family, they are coming up and down a lot.”
