Connor Goldson Rangers omission vs Dundee explained by Philippe Clement

Philippe Clement has moved to detail why Connor Goldson was not part of his Rangers starting line-up for this afternoon's match against Dundee.

The Englishman was an obvious omission from the team when it was announced a short while before 2pm.

At half time in the match, the hosts lead 3-1 at Ibrox after Dundee scored first. Rangers have been reduced to ten men though, as Jose Cifuentes was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Bakayoko.

John Souttar and Leon Balogun were entrusted by the manager from the start, with Goldson on the bench.

And Clement has revealed there is no injury concern for Goldson, he has simply earned a rest.

The Belgian told RangersTV: "Maybe the most unexpected change is that Connor is not starting but like I've said, 12 games in 37 days it's impossible to play every game 90 minutes and play at your top game. So you have to take that into account.

"Johnny [Souttar] is also doing a good job in training games so to give Connor a breather in between these important games.

"Borna [Barisic] is back after injury, he felt good, he showed quality in training and that's why he's back.

"Rabbi [Matondo] needs game time and Ross [McCausland] is playing a lot, I don't want to burn him, it's a crucial thing. He's doing a really good job, a lot of effort for the team.

"Dani [Danilo] is out and Cyriel [Dessers] is stepping in as he's the one showing the most fittest form from the strikers."

Meanwhile, Danilo was yesterday ruled out until after New Year after sustaining a knee injury against Hearts.

Now, the Brazilian has taken to social media to break his silence on the latest setback.

He wrote: "Out of necessity not able to do what I love the most for a period of time. I will support the team from a distance for the upcoming games. For now I need to focus to heal my knee and getting back as soon as possible.

"Thank you all for the concern, I will come back stronger."
