Connor Goldson Rangers injury update from Michael Beale as Celtic Scottish Cup clash looms

Michael Beale has provided a positive update on Connor Goldson with his chances of facing Celtic at Hampden looking high.

The Rangers defender was ruled out of the 3-2 loss to Ange Postecoglou's men last weekend with a hip injury with John Souttar taking the place of the ever-present stopper. He's been a key man at Ibrox ever since his arrival with his longest spell out of the team coming earlier this season due to an extended injury period.

Goldson has struck up a first choice partnership with Ben Davies under Beale and while he won't be available for tomorrow's clash at home to St Mirren, his chances of facing Aberdeen at Pittodrie next weekend and if not, then Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final the following week have been rated much more likely by his club boss.

Beale told Rangers TV : "In terms of last week, Connor won't return, it will more likely to be back for Aberdeen or certainly for the semi-final at the end of the month. We have one or two other bumps and bruises.

"There was a game on Tuesday against Chelsea reserves where Leon King, Ianis Hagi, Rabbi Matondo and Scott Wright got valuable minutes. We will assess tomorrow (Friday) and pick the squad for the weekend."

The Light Blues will be determined to bounce back from that thriller at Parkhead. Kyogo Furuhashi grabbed a double with Jota capitalising on a defensive error to round Allan McGregor and net for the home side.

Skipper James Tavernier was on target twice for Rangers to take his goal tally for the club to the 100 milestone as the Ibrox men bid to get wins in the final two games in the Premiership pre-split to go into the crucial last four game at the end of the month in a positive frame of mind.

Rangers won the trophy last season and Beale and Co have put major importance in retaining it once again and bring an end to any hopes of a domestic Treble heading to Celtic Park.
