Connor Goldson Rangers heroics top Europa League chart as he leaves Declan Rice and Frankfurt man in his wake

Connor Goldson has made more ball recoveries than any other player in the Europa League this season as he leads Rangers ' charge to Seville.

The centre-back has been a key man for Gio van Bronckhorst having barely missed a minute since the Dutchman's arrival.

He's played a mammoth 58 games in total this season and played the full 90 in all but one of their Europa League matches.

While James Tavernier has grabbed the headlines with his goalscoring exploits, Goldson's commanding and aggressive brand of defending has been just as important in the route to the final.

And that shows in the stats with the competition's official Twitter account applauding his 92 ball recoveries.

It's head and shoulders above any other player with Eintracht Frankfurt's Evan N'Dicka coming in second with 75.

Interestingly, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice - known for his combative style and presence in the engine room - ranks in sixth place on 62, some 30 ball recoveries behind Goldson.

Rangers will be hoping the 29-year-old can deliver another top performance in Seville and get his hands on the Europa League trophy.

It remains to be seen if that will be enough to convince him to stay at Ibrox though as his contract continues to dwindle.

As things stand he will be a free agent from June and his impressive displays in Europe mean he isn't likely to be short of offers.
