Connor Goldson opens up on Alfredo Morelos situation as striker is dropped from Rangers Champions League squad

Alfredo Morelos

CONNOR GOLDSON has backed Giovanni van Bronckhorst's decision to banish striker Alfredo Morelos on the eve of Rangers' European shot at glory.

The Light Blues head into their all-or-nothing fixture with PSV Eindhoven without their Colombian talisman after he was left behind in Glasgow.

Van Bronckhorst has made the call not to field Morelos amid long-term concerns over his fitness and mentality and just days after he was dismissed against Hibernian.

And Goldson knows Rangers must focus on the job in hand in Eindhoven despite the absence of one of their key performers on the continental stage.

Goldson said: "I don’t really think it brings us together more but at the same time we’re a team and a group.

“We’re here to do a job. We’re all professional, we all play for this club and we all set our goals at the start of each season and we want to play in the Champions League.

“The job is still the same and we’ve got a massive night ahead of us and we all want to produce.

“It’s the manager’s decision. He pulled us in [on Monday] and let us know so we knew what was happening. He’s made the decision so it’s completely his decision.

“I don’t know what else to say, if he’s fit and ready to play then he’s one of the best players for us but it’s not my decision. The manager has made his decision.”
