Connor Goldson on Rangers sympathy for John Souttar as he reveals behind the scenes injury reality check from teammate

Rangers defender Connor Goldson admits a behind the scenes chat with teammate John Souttar made him realise he couldn't complain about his Ibrox injury woes.

The 30-year-old has returned from his first long-term absence since making his move to Rangers, after a thigh injury sustained during the Champions League clash with Liverpool kept him on the sidelines for two months. He was handed a start during the dramatic 3-2 win over Aberdeen, and admits Souttar helped him realise how lucky he was only two miss out of two months of action.

The Scotland cap has been hampered by fitness issues since making the move to Ibrox from Hearts, with the 26-year-old managing just one appearance so far for the club on the opening day of the season. It comes after Souttar endured a tough time with injuries suffering a serious Achilles issues during his time at Tynecastle, while also being sidelined with an ankle knock for several games last term.

Asked by Sky Sports if he was due a spell on the sidelines having been a mainstay of the Ibrox starting XI back in 2018, Goldson said: "Yeah, we actually said that. When I came off in the Liverpool game I took it really hard. I was quite emotional when I walked in (to training), just because I felt I was getting to the best form of the season in that little period and the few weeks before it as well. But at the same time, when I walked in the first person to come up to me was John Souttar.

"I actually thought to myself that I've been so fortunate for four years that I can't complain. I have played most of the game in the past four years here, and he has been unfortunate with his time with injuries and this season with injuries. I thought to myself I can't complain."
