Connor Goldson MUST stay at Rangers insists Richard Gough as he issues £8million transfer replacement verdict

Nine-in-a-row legend Richard Gough reckons Rangers must make a last gasp bid to keep Connor Goldson at Ibrox.

And the former Ibrox captain told the out-of-contract defender that he'll never again experience the scenes he witnessed at Hampden on Sunday if he walks away at the end of the season.

Goldson was seen standing alone at the end of the Scottish Cup semi final win over Celtic, drinking in the sights and sound of the Rangers support relishing their victory, but Gough hopes it wasn't a signal that the centre back's four-year stint in Govan is coming to an end.

He said: "You see scenes like yesterday and they might just give him food for thought. Does he want to give that up?

"He's a good football player; a modern day centre back and like James Tavernier, his appearance record is phenomenal. He hardly ever misses a game.

"Rangers have got to make a decision. To get someone of his quality to replace him could cost them £6, 7, 8 million, so do they say to him, there's a long term contract on big money?

"He's one of the experienced boys and seems to be good in the dressing room. He looks after himself and doesn't seem to be a problem off the field.

"If Rangers could keep him, I'm sure they would.

"But we don't know his family situation...maybe they want to go back down south."

Gough, who played at Spurs and Everton in England, is convinced that if Goldson leaves, he'll be downgrading in terms of the stature of club he'll be representing.

He added: "Connor knows himself that he won't play for a bigger club in Britain. He might get more money but he won't play at a club where he has to win every game. It's a constant pressure and there's nothing like it.

"He'll have seen that on Sunday. He'll know that if he goes, he's not going to play in the semi final of a European competition again.

"This is an experience of a lifetime for him."
