CONNOR GOLDSON is confident Rangers can scale new heights on the continent and clinch their place in the Champions League at the second time of asking.
And the defender insists he would never have committed his future to Giovanni van Bronckhorst if he didn’t believe the levels of ambition at Ibrox matched his own standards.
Goldson was part of the side that were beaten by Malmo last term as Steven Gerrard’s side suffered an early Champions League exit just weeks after clinching a historic 55th Premiership title.
Rangers would go on to enjoy a remarkable European campaign, however, as they came agonisingly close to lifting the Europa League and suffered a shoot-out defeat in Seville.
Goldson gave boss Van Bronckhorst a huge lift by putting pen-to-paper on a new four-year deal at Ibrox last month and the Englishman is determined to raise the bar at home and abroad once again this term.
Goldson said: “We are all desperate to reach the Champions League.
“I think we’ve had four years now of being in the Europa League. I know we didn’t win it, but hopefully the journey we went on shows that we as a team are ready to take that next step.
“We played against teams last season that are Champions League opposition in Dortmund and Leipzig.
“We went toe-to-toe with them so hopefully we can overcome these two hurdles and have a right go at it.
“We need to look at pushing on. Again, these things were crucial in my talks with Ross Wilson.
“I don’t want to stay here if we are not going to keep developing and keep kicking on as a team. To be fair to the club, their ambitions are really good.
“They want to push on and continue to invest. They want to get the best team possible.
“The desire is stronger than ever, I wouldn’t have stayed here if it wasn’t.”
