Connor Goldson makes beeline for Rangers fans who plead 'get that contract signed' amid future indicator

If this is to be the last month of Connor Goldson’s four-year stay at Ibrox then he seems determined to savour every moment.

The defender was captured sitting on the turf following the extra time win over Braga last week as he watched the fans celebrate a momentous victory.

And the 29-year-old made sure he shared the joy of the Scottish Cup semi final win over Celtic at Hampden.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s entire squad went over to the Rangers fans in the west stand to take the acclaim of the delirious punters.

But Goldson remained long after his team-mates had made their way back up the Hampden tunnel.

The shirtless former Brighton stopper was last off the pitch and it was a very different experience from his previous Hampden visit.

Goldson was criticised for conceding Rangers had “lost a bit of hunger” following their Premier Sports Cup semi final loss against Hibs.

He referred to that statement with a message on social media which he captioned “lost my hunger apparently” with an accompanying picture of him celebrating at Hampden.

Fans are desperate for Goldson to extend his stay at the Light Blues after a season-long contract stand-off.

One supporter said on social media: “Is there some way we can sort Connor Goldson out with a contract extension? He’s been immense.”

And alongside a photo of him at full time at Hampden another said: “Take it in big man, Connor Goldson has been such a big players for in his time here. Hope he signs a new contract.”

Van Bronckhorst said ahead of the game that the contract issue wasn’t having an impact on Goldson’s performances.

He said: “I’ve never experienced in my coaching career when a player is out of contract that it affects them. It’s a circumstance that’s happening a lot. Connor is handling it really well.

“He’s performing well and it doesn’t have a negative influence on him and it definitely hasn’t had a negative influence on me.”
