Connor Goldson in Calvin Bassey confession as Rangers star reckons £25m Ajax target can go 'wherever he wants'

Connor Goldson is convinced wanted man Calvin Bassey has the ability to become a star for any team amid significant interest in his signature.

Record Sport understands Ajax and Brighton are ready to battle it out for the 22-year-old Nigeria international in deal which could land the Ibrox side £25m. And Goldson reckons the incredible improvements made by Bassey means he now has "the world at his feet."

Bassey's all-conquering displays en route to the Europa League Final has him on the radar of clubs across Europe with the Eredivisie champions pushing hard to land the former Leicester Academy graduate. Their need for defensive reinforcements are stark with key man Lisandro Martinez joining Manchester United in a £46m deal. But Ajax are set to face a battle from Graham Potter's Brighton as they aim to futureproof with star left-back Marc Cucurella wanted by Manchester City.

And Goldson is in no doubt he's starring alongside a player who has earned the heady praise due to his hard graft to become a Rangers standout. Speaking to the Glasgow Times, he said: “He has got everything. I probably shouldn’t say it but he can go wherever he wants to go. Whenever that is, he’ll end up having an unbelievable career. He’s got attributes that you simply cannot train. Speed, strength, his left foot is amazing. He’s literally got the lot. I was so happy for him given the season he had before when he got into a bit of trouble because of Covid.

“He came back, worked his socks off in pre-season and I remember him saying to me that he wanted to start playing games regularly. Last summer he went away with a trainer and worked his socks off. He got his rewards in the end. He has got everything, you can’t beat him one vs one. He can attack, he can defend, he still has the raw side to him where he’ll literally run through you. He’s got the world at his feet.

“He just wants to learn and get better and that’s been the case with him from the moment he got here. The main thing now is that he’s got these games behind him and he’s starting to build up that experience on the pitch. When you look back to when he first came, and I’m thinking about that St Mirren cup game. He used to let things really affect him mentally, but now he’s starting to level it out about. He doesn’t get too high when things are going well and equally he doesn’t get too low when things are going against him.”
