Connor Goldson given scathing Rangers 'no aggression' verdict after 'dangerous' moment with Jota

Stiliyan Petrov says he lost some respect for Rangers' Connor Goldson after Saturday's 4-0 derby day loss to Celtic.

The defender had an off day like many of his teammates in light blue, with Liel Abada and Jota goals putting the Hoops in a 3-0 lead before half-time was even reached. David Turnbull then finished off the job in the second half after latching on to a horror pass by Rangers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

However, it wasn't the defending for each goal that left Hoops legend Petrov disappointed in Goldson, it was a flashpoint with Jota where the Rangers defender looked to have caught him with an arm to stop a breakaway. That was not called for according to the pundit on Sky Sports and he reckons it was something that can't be allowed. He said: "Listen, I lose a lot of respect for players like that. You don't do it that way.

"You'd rather see a player go and tackle. We can see the frustration. I've been there and I usually used to jump up.

"There's no aggression, he just wants to stop him going one-on-one with the last man. But the first one is a problem for me. You're not allowed to do that. This is dangerous."

Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has to pick his players up quickly ahead of Wednesday's Champions League group stage opener at Ajax.
