Interest from West Brom and Nottingham Forest has thrust Connor Goldson back into the transfer spotlight on Monday.
It's been his potential replacement at Rangers, John Souttar, grabbing the headlines over the past week as he agreed a pre-contract to move to Ibrox in the summer, possibly even earlier.
But there's still been no resolution on Goldson's future as his contract winds down to a conclusion.
Two potential suitors in Forest and WBA were named on Sunday night but Rangers legend and Record Sport columnist Barry Ferguson isn't overly impressed.
He accepts the centre-back could earn a big payday back in the EFL Championship but insists that, in footballing terms, there's simply no comparison between the English sides and his old team.
Alloa boss Ferguson told Go Radio: "They're big clubs but they don't compare to Rangers. In saying that, he can probably go down there and double his salary.
"It will be interesting to see what Goldson does. If he was going to stay he would probably have signed by now
"It looks like he could be on his way but I'm sure Gio will be trying his best to keep him.
"They've signed Souttar, but I don't think that is anything to do with Goldson
"This will probably be his last big contract. He's got to look after himself, but Rangers will be desperate to keep him."
