Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin insists the club are in "no rush" to agree a new deal with Connor Barron with the midfielder on the injury list.
Celtic have an interest in the 20-year-old after his impressive breakthrough campaign at Pittodrie, while Belgian outfit RK Genk also put him on their transfer radar in the summer but Barron remained in the Granite City. Barron only signed a new deal with the Dons in January until 2024, but the Pittodrie club are already trying to renegotiate another deal with the talented youngster as chairman Dave Cormack is believed to be particularly keen to tie him down on a long-term contract.
The Scotland Under-21 star has yet to feature this season after damaging the medial ligament in a pre-season friendly against Buckie Thistle, and Goodwin insists the focus is on getting the youngster back in the first-team picture. He has brushed off any concerns over the player's contract status.
He told the Press and Journal: “These things take time. Connor is out injured at the moment so there is no great rush to do anything.
“He has just under two years of his current deal left. We have made Connor aware of what we think of him.
“Negotiations are ongoing between the director of football (Steven Gunn) and Connor’s agent. Last season when I came in I think Connor had played one league game prior to that.
“However he was a mainstay in the team for me. We would love Connor to commit his long term future to Aberdeen.
“Connor knows what we think of him here. I don’t think it will be one that drags on too long.”
