Connacht v Cardiff team news as Wales star misses trip to Galway through injury

Wales wing Josh Adams will sit out Cardiff's must-win United Rugby Championship clash with Connacht tomorrow (7.35pm) after sustaining a knee injury.

Adams suffered the injury in his side's Challenge Cup defeat in Treviso last Saturday but it is unclear how serious it is.

Cardiff travel to Galway knowing a defeat would end their slim hopes of reaching the URC play-offs but would also give the Ospreys a real chance of winning the Welsh Shield.

Qualification for next season's Heineken Champions Cup is very much in Cardiff's hands, with victories in their final two games against Connacht and the Ospreys at Judgement Day enough to see them lift the Welsh Shield.

Tomorrow's clash with a dangerous Connacht side will see in-form loosehead Corey Domachowski make his 100th appearance for the club.

The 26-year-old is named in an unchanged front-row for the fourth consecutive match alongside Liam Belcher and Keiron Assiratti.

Lopeti Timani and Seb Davies return to the starting line-up to complete the front five, while the back row of James Botham, Thomas Young and Taulupe Faletau continue as a unit.

Tomos Williams will captain the side and will link up with Rhys Priestland at half-back. There is just a single change in the backline, with Jason Harries replacing Adams on the wing, after the British and Irish Lion suffered a knee in last week’s defeat to Benetton.

“We were disappointed to bow out of Europe against a quality Benetton side last weekend but I could not fault the boys' effort or endeavour," said Cardiff director of rugby Dai Young.

“There has been no time to feel sorry for ourselves as we now have a massive game in the URC and plenty to play for with the play-offs and Welsh Shield. It is going to go right down to the wire and we know we have to perform.

“We want to finish the season on a high and we will give everything we have in these last two games and see where it takes us.

“Connacht is always a difficult place to go, they are formidable on their own ground and are also looking to confirm their place in the play-offs. It is going to be a big challenge but it is one that we are excited for.”
