President Biden engaged in a virtual call with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) on Monday night, expressing gratitude for their steadfast support and emphasizing a reciprocal commitment to loyalty. During the call, Biden assured CBC members, 'You’ve had my back, and I’ll continue to have yours,' according to sources familiar with the conversation.
Reports indicate that a formal statement of support for Biden from the CBC is anticipated to be released in the near future. Such an endorsement would hold significant weight in bolstering Biden's campaign against internal opposition seeking to derail his re-election bid.
Following concerns raised by some Democratic representatives regarding Biden's recent debate performance and his viability against former President Trump in the upcoming election, calls for Biden to step aside have emerged from figures such as Reps. Mike Quigley, Seth Moulton, Lloyd Doggett, Angie Craig, and Raul Grijalva.
However, Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida voiced her support for Biden following the virtual meeting with the CBC, commending his dedication to national progress and underscoring his commitment to advancing Black economic prosperity. Wilson affirmed her endorsement of Biden for another term, citing his consistent advocacy for marginalized communities.
In her statement, Wilson highlighted Biden's unwavering stance on fighting for the nation's future and his alignment with the goals of the Black community. She emphasized that Biden's enduring support for initiatives aimed at enhancing Black economic empowerment resonated with her decision to stand by him for another four years.
