HYDERABAD: The Congress will hold year-long celebrations in commemoration of the historic event of merger of Hyderabad state into Indian union. The historic event enters into the 75th year of its integration into the Indian union on September 17 this year.
Telangana Congress president A Revanth Reddy also demanded that the state government apologise for not celebrating it officially in the last eight years.
The TPCC chief called upon the party cadres to celebrate it year long to pay tributes to the people who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the Nizam and British rule and ensure that the younger generation are explained about the freedom struggle against the Nizams.
"Special effort should be made to explain the sacrifices made by the Congress leaders and their role in ensuring the merger of Hyderabad into the Indian Union,” he said.
Addressing a media conference in Munugode town along with senior leaders N Uttam Kumar Reddy, K Jana Reddy, R Damodar Reddy among others, Revanth said the BJP was not part of any struggle in India's Independence movement or in the merger of Hyderabad into the Indian Union.
"But now the BJP is trying to derive political mileage by celebrating the historic event with the intention of polarising votes. The BJP was not even born at that time. It is high time that BJP and TRS are taught a lesson for ignoring September 17 all these years," said Revanth.
The Congress leaders released a charge sheet against the TRS government, former MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy and the BJP, listing out the empty promises made by them.
Reading out the charges against TRS, BJP and Raj Gopal, Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy appealed to the people to reject these parties who would come up with new promises and seek votes in the by-poll to Munugode Assembly constituency.
The chargesheet exposes failures of TRS and BJP governments such as Pattas not being given for podu lands, three acres land not being given to Dalits and 2-BHK houses mostly remaining on paper, continuing suicides of farmers and taking the total debts of the state to nearly Rs 5 lakh crore, Raj Gopal Reddy joined the BJP for a business deal of Rs 22,000 crore, BJP government increasing prices of gad, diesel, petrol, imposing GST on milk and other food items, denial of enhancement of reservations, not giving two crore jobs every year in the last eight years and BJP government scrapping the high job and investment potential ITIR project sanctioned by the Congress government earlier.
