Congress protests against price rise in Hubballi

Protesting against the soaring prices of essential commodities and domestic LPG, members of various wings of Congress party staged demonstrations at different places in Hubballi and Dharwad on Thursday.

Leading the agitation at the central business district in Hubballi, former State president of Youth Congress Sadanand Danganavar symbolically garlanded domestic LPG cyclinders to register the protest.

Condemning the failure of the Union Government to check the soaring prices of essential commodities and construction materials, Mr. Danganavar said that the State and the Union Governments were further burdening people, who were already badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that when in Opposition, the BJP leaders were on the streets even when there was a slight hike in fuel prices and now being in power, they were least bothered about the price rise.

The BJP leaders should introspect and immediately take steps to mitigate the hardships of the commoners, he said.  He was accompanied by Shankar Akargal, Sanjiv Kunte Kanchana Shindhe, Irshad Ali, and others.

In the demonstration at Gopanakoppa Circle in Hubballi, the protesters garlanded LPG cylinders, scooters and motorcycles and beat drums to protest against the price rise. The members and office bearers of Vidyanagar and Unakal Block Congress units led the protest.

Addressing the protesters, president of Vidyanagar Block Congress Rajat Ullagaddimath said that because of the apathy of the State and the Union Governments, the people were fed up and were seeking a change.

The other speakers alleged that the BJP-led Governments were focusing only tax collection and were least bothered about the plight of the people.

Former Mayor Prakash Kyarakatti, HDMC councillors Suvarna Kallakuntla, Prakash Kurahatti, Sandilkumar, Arif Bhadrapur, Sunil Mathapathy, Deepa Gouri, Shakir Sanadi, and others took part in the protest.
