The Congress on Friday demanded that the government issue a white paper on a Chinese national who allegedly duped 1,200 people in Gujarat to the tune of ₹1,400 crore in Gujarat by using a betting app.
Alleging that the Narendra Modi-led government routinely used central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) to target Opposition leaders, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera asked why it could not take action against Chinese scamsters who “looted” Indians and fled the country.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Khera claimed that Woo Uyanbe had used a football betting app to dupe 1,200 people in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s home State in just nine days but the government could not stop him.
‘U.P. police promoted app’
The Congress leader also claimed that the police in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh had “promoted” the Dani Data App, thereby helping it earn the trust of common people before it was realised that the app was a scam. He displayed some pictures available on social media where U.P. police personnel are purportedly seen posing with banners sponsored by the Dani Data App.
Mr. Khera claimed that the Chinese techie stayed in India between 2020 and 2022 and created the fake football betting app that was used to swindle crores from the ordinary people of Gujarat — mostly from Banaskantha and Patan — and parts of Uttar Pradesh, before escaping from India.
“Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are using the ED, CBI, SFIO, etc. to target Opposition leaders, but not Chinese scamsters who loot Indians and flee the country,” Mr. Khera said.
“We demand that the government come out with a white paper to bring out the truth and ascertain how many people have been duped and who is the scamster linked to,” he added, noting that Mahatma Gandhi’s Gujarat is now becoming a hub of betting scams and ponzi schemes.
