Congestion at Hermiston Gait onto M8 eastbound after road traffic collision

Traffic Scotland have reported that a road traffic collision on the Edinburgh City Bypass eastbound at Baberton has caused some congestion in the area.

This is understood to have caused some congestion at Hermiston Gait, so commuters should be cautious as they approach the area.

Police Scotland and the Trunk Road Incident Support Unit attended the scene.

Traffic Scotland later added that the road was cleared shortly before 8am but that congestion is still to be expected as commuters approach the Hermiston Gait area.

They added that both lanes are now running and that traffic is also heavy onto the M8 eastbound.

Traffic Scotland said: “NEW: 07:35

“#A720 RTC

“Reports of an RTC on the Edinburgh City Bypass eastbound at Baberton.

“TRISS & police are en route.

“Slow traffic back to Hermiston Gait.”

They later added: “CLEAR: 07:45

“#A720 RTC

“RTC now clear from Edinburgh City Bypass eastbound at Baberton.

“Both lanes running. Traffic is heavy back to Hermiston Gait and onto the #M8 eastbound.”

A Police spokesperson said: "Around 7.40am on Wednesday 2 March 2022, police received a report of a two-vehicle road crash on the A720 near Baberton. There are currently no reports of any injuries and the vehicles have been removed to the hard shoulder. The road remains open."
