Concerns for popular Bristol Shaws branches as flash sale leaves shelves bare

Concerns have been raised for the future of a popular Bristol drapers store after flash sales left the shelves empty at branches across the city. Over the past week, customers have been flocking to Shaws stores leaving bare shelves in Fishponds, Kingwood and Yate shops.

The branches are selling stock at bargain prices with queues of shoppers snapping up everything from bedding and curtains.

The company reportedly closed its Stroud shop in Gloucestershire after 18 years and now fears have begun to grow for its wider future. But according to Companies House, Shaws (The Drapers) Limited is still active.

Fans of the brand have described the current situation as 'gutting' while others believe it to be 'the end of an era'. It's not just Bristol where fears have been raised.

Customers have spoken out on the brand’s Facebook site asking if all its Welsh stores are closing down. A user said staff at Neath and Swansea store have been left in the dark and had no idea if the latest flash sales are in preparation for its closure. A shopper who recently visited a Shaws store in Cardiff said the only thing left was wool.

The family-run business based in Cardiff dates back to 1912 in Wales and has since opened 28 stores including its online shop Shaw Direct. It is known for its home accessories and soft furnishings as well as wool and yarn. Bristol Live has approached the company for comment.
