A Britney Spears fan believes she has been "replaced", and has used artificial intelligence in an attempt to prove the bold claim.
The 41-year-old pop icon has concerned fans in recent moments, with some fans believing that her accounts aren’t being run by Britney herself - despite her conservatorship ending in November 2021 after 13 years.
The Instagram account BritneyIsNotFree - which appears to reference the high-profile #FreeBritney movement which put the heat on the control her father Jamie Spears had on her career, finances and even her bodily autonomy - has posted a video where a fan used an AI to “enhance” an unclear picture from Britney’s recent wedding to Sam Asghari.
The video in the since-removed account shows the smiling princess of pop on her wedding day, but the photo is blurry and somewhat pixelated.
After running the picture into an AI photo generator, which adapts the image to make it clearer, fans believe that the image in the image is not Britney.
In the reel, the account which made the claim said: "Nothing can convince me that’s her at this point."
After the account shared the clip and claimed that it isn’t Britney in the picture, fans quickly took to the comments section to share their divisive thoughts.
One fan wrote: "It hasn't been her in over a decade or more," while another said: "Lol looks like Jessica Simpson. Weird," with several other fans adding the same sentiments.
A third person went on to write: "Explains the gloves so it covers the tattoo on her hand."
"The eye colour is wrong. [It] has Jessica Simpson's nose. Teeth don't match. No way," another fan wrote.
But others believed that the theory was baseless, as one person said: "AI isn't reliable lol. These conspiracy theories are dumb. Let Britney live!!"
"I have this app and it makes everyone's face messed up like that if it's too pixelated or small,” another offered, while someone else said: "Using AI doesn't prove anything."
The Mirror has contacted a representative of Britney Spears for a comment on the matter.
