Concern in Nottingham street as man injured in 'serious assault'

Neighbours voiced their concerns after police cordoned off a busy residential street in Nottingham following reports of a 'serious assault'. One man was taken to hospital and police stepped up patrols after the incident in Port Arthur Road, Sneinton, at about 5pm on Wednesday, July 13.

The extent of the man's injuries are not yet known but one eyewitness reported seeing the air ambulance in the area. A resident who asked to remain anonymous, saw the incident and said she 'shouted for someone to call police' after a man was stabbed.

Sameh Alabadla, a dad of two, said: "Sure I am afraid about it because sometimes my kids go out on the street. This shows people are walking around with weapons so you have to be careful."

Anndy Omu, who has lived in Port Arthur Road for five years, said she has "never seen anything like it". "I have no single clue what happened," she said. "I wanted to go to the Co-op and I saw this. It's serious, I've never experienced anything like this, ever."

Henry Davies, who lives in Port Arthur Road, said: "I can't remember the last time something like that happened here. I suppose it's part and parcel of living in a city, well anywhere, but especially a city. I went out to the shop and just saw the cordon."

Josh Walker, who lives nearby, added: "I've been here for a year and haven't had anything like this. It's quite a calm area usually. I was shocked to see that."

The 25-year-old added: "It doesn't concern me, I think it was probably just a one-off."

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, added: "I heard some shouting but I didn't see anything, I didn't want to investigate. It was just a surprise to open the door and see this [cordon] right there. You don't expect this to happen in your street."

Nottinghamshire Police has launched an investigation into the incident and is asking anybody with information to come forward. Chief Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers were called to reports of a serious assault in Sneinton Dale, Sneinton, this evening (13 July) shortly before 5pm.

“A 35-year-old man has been taken to hospital with the extent of his injuries currently unknown. Officers remain at the scene so I would like to reassure the public that there will be an increase in police presence while we investigate the incident.

“I would urge anyone with any information or who saw the incident to get in touch with us or speak to a patrolling officer.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 539 of 13 July 2022, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
