Concern in Mapperley after man stomped on in random attack

Neighbours in Mapperley have voiced their shock after a man was injured in a seemingly random attack in the community. The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, told Nottinghamshire Live that he was thrown to the ground and stomped on as he walked home from the shops on the evening of Thursday, May 12.

He said the assault, which is being investigated by police, happened around Chestnut Grove. People living in the area expressed their surprise at the incident.

Ella Sheteul, a 21-year-old charity worker, said she found the story "really shocking”, but added: “I don’t feel massively affected to be completely honest with you. These things can happen anywhere, but I guess it is surprising it happened here.”

Karol Klimech, 40, said: “I live just down the road and I am really surprised that something like that would happen here because it’s so quiet. I’ve never known there be much trouble in the area since I’ve lived here.”

Anna Cooper, who lives at the end of Chestnut Grove, said she was not that surprised. "My car got broken into a couple of months ago and someone took my new pushbike,” added the 51-year-old.

“It is really sad but I’m not particularly shocked. I do often hear shouting and rowdy behaviour at night. One of the houses on the road has some dodgy people in it. It’s sad that with all the things going on in the world that people can still be so cold and brutal.”

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating reports of an assault on a man in Chestnut Grove at around 8.30pm on the evening of Thursday 12 May. Our investigation into what happened is ongoing and we ask any additional witnesses to call 101 quoting incident 747 of 12 May.”
