Concern in 'dangerous' Nottingham suburb after forensics called to 'serious assault'

Residents in a Nottingham suburb have told of their crime fears - after police were called to reports of a 'serious assault'. A heavy police presence - including a crime scene investigation van - was reported on Sneinton Boulevard today (January 11) following the attack at the weekend.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers are investigating reports of a serious assault at an address in Sneinton Boulevard on the evening of January 7. It is believed that two people – a man and a woman – were assaulted.

"Officers would like to speak to anybody who heard or saw anything suspicious in and around this area at around 11pm on Saturday evening. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 156 of 9 January 2022."

People in Sneinton Boulevard told of their fears as forensics officers were seen in the area. Many said they are used to hearing shouting and doors slamming throughout the night.

Amir Muhmmad, owner of the Blade barber shop located on the corner of Trent Road, said: "There is always police here. You always see them in different locations but always somewhere in the area.

"You see police here every other day. It is affecting me like many others because I always have to close the business when there's a police cordon."

Megan Campe, a frightened neighbour who lives near the where the police were called, said: "Police are in the area every couple of days but nothing ever changes. There is a lot of shouting and slamming doors, usually at night.

"Every time I come home from work late at night I come to shouting." Awat Saeed, a business owner of a shop on Sneinton Boulevard, said his customers often complain to him about having headaches from the lack of sleep.

He added: "Sneinton has always been dangerous. I had my business here for a long time but I always lived out of it.

"There is always police around here. It is difficult for everybody here.

"Customers always complain to me about having headaches. They say they cannot sleep most nights because of all the shouting on the streets."

Jack Brown, a concerned neighbour, said he is planning to move out of Sneinton 'away from all the trouble'. The 28-year-old added: "It never ends. It is like the kingdom for shouting and crime.

"It happens all the time that police come here for another incident. We got used to it - but I am moving out because I have had enough. It is too dangerous.

"There are always people arguing at night. We cannot sleep because of all the shouting."
