Concern as Ludomo Lamati leaves ring on stretcher following defeat to Nick Ball on Michael Conlan v Luis Alberto Lopez undercard

There was concern for Ludumo Lamati after he left the ring on a stretcher following his defeat to Nick Ball on Saturday night in Belfast.

The South African's corner threw in the towel in the 12th and final round as Ball landed a number of powerful punches on the 31-year-old.

Ball looked to have done enough to win the fight prior to the stoppage and was more than likely going to get the victory on points if the bout went the distance.

But as Ball landed a number of shots to the head of Lamati, his corner had no option but to throw the towel in.

Lamati then went to the ground back in his corner and was attended to by medical staff, with some media at ringside reporting that he was speaking to them.

He was then taken out of the ring on a stretcher a couple of moments later.

Speaking to BT Sports after the fight, Ball paid tribute to his opponent, saying: "The main thing is Lamati's health and when I know he's alright I'll be even more happy. This boxing is not no joking. You've got some people not taking it serious and you can lose your life in there so the main thing is his health."

The incident led to the main event being delayed for a time.
