Beauty often takes a back seat to the fashion during fashion week. That's not so surprising given the fact that it's called "fashion week," not "beauty week." But there's a bit of a balancing act brands have to master. You want the hair and makeup to complement the clothing, but not upstage it. At Milan Fashion Week Fall 2024, makeup artists and hairstylists rose to meet the challenge.
There definitely are some themes. Wet hair is still trending. For Etro's Fall 2024 show, models showcase faux bangs with some soaked strands styled on their foreheads. Diesel and Roberto Cavalli also dampened models' manes. Another surprising trend is Princess Leia-esque space buns. Fendi opted to give models matching low buns that sit right behind the ears. The complex ponytails at Del Core also need to be seen from the back to achieve the full effect.
On the makeup front, eyes once again played a starring role. A couple of models' eyes at Vivetta were decorated with rhinestone accents. Emporio Armani takes us back to the 80s with its colorful eyeshadow combo. Restrained vibrant eyeliner was used to draw attention to Etro's models. Red eyeliner was used to highlight eyes at both GCDS and Moschino. But smoky eyes reign supreme. Sometimes they're even combined with cat eyes for extra oomph. Cavalli's version included smudged tails. Tom Ford went for a more classic take calling to mind the currently trending again 90s grunge look. Not sure if that's intentional though because smoky eyes are pretty synonymous with Ford's brand.
