'Completely ruins it' - Man City fans divided over 'leaked' 2022/23 away kit

Manchester City's home kit for the 2022/23 season has proved a resounding success amongst supporters, with sales records broken and many dubbing it City's best home strip for years.

Now it's time for the new away kit to come under the spotlight, as photos of City's new changed strip have been 'leaked' online.

The big takeaway is that after an 11-year hiatus, the famous red and black stripes are back! The beloved design - made famous by Joe Mercer's FA Cup-winning side of 1969 - was last worn by Sergio Aguero & co in 2011/12 as City won their first-ever Premier League title.

If the leaks turn out to be right then the red stripes will be diagonal rather than vertical, with the City badge, Puma logo and Etihad Airways sponsor added in yellow to provide contrast.

It's a classic design, and plenty of City fans are delighted that it has made a return after a decade away.

@a1exbd: This might be the best set of kits we’ve ever had.

However, some City fans are disappointed that Puma appear to have dropped a bit of a design clanger when producing such an iconic and culturally significant shirt.

According to the leaked photos, on the back of the shirt the diagonal stripes will abruptly stop halfway up the back, leaving a black box where the players' names and numbers will be printed.

In practice the design will look fine, but for supporters who chose not to have a name and number added to their replica shirt, the black box makes for an eyesore on an otherwise beautiful kit.

@TwoPhonesJones3: The back completely ruins it.

@ronanpatlee: It's a quality shirt but I agree with you about the back, it has to be like that on the pitch because of rules but there's no reason the fan version can't have the stripes all the way.

@ashley___04: You won’t notice it when a players number and name is on it.
