Compensation for Cam Akers trade revealed

Within an hour of the announcement of the Minnesota Vikings trading for running back Cam Akers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings sent a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for Akers and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

Yes, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has traded his first pick from 2026.

Last August, Adofo-Mensah acquired a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for Jesse Davis. At that price, it’s basically free since the common theory is that future year picks are downgraded by a round for each year in the future they are traded. In essence, that 2026 sixth-round pick is essentially the value of (if it existed) an eighth-round pick.

Akers comes to the Vikings to help fix the running game that has been incredibly disappointing. They have run the ball 25 times for 69 yards over two games. Those are putrid numbers for an NFL team over a two-game stretch. If he can fix the running game, it would be a huge benefit for the Vikings.
