Company behind Pilgrims Choice and Kerrygold brands launches recruitment drive in centenary year

Around 80 new jobs are up for grabs at a Staffordshire dairy giant – as it gears up to celebrate its 100th anniversary this year.

Ornua Food UK has launched a recruitment drive for new staff to work at its Sunnyhills Road factory, in Leek 'to support the ongoing growth of the business.'

There are a wide variety of roles up for grabs including production operatives, team leaders, ICT support and forklift truck drivers.

Lindsey Heath, senior talent acquisition specialist at Ornua Foods UK, said: "This is a really exciting time to join the business.

"Not only are we celebrating our 100th year in Leek, but we are also moving forward with the creation of innovative solutions and ways of working to support both our customers and the environment.

"If you're looking for a rewarding career with a longstanding, world-class business in the Staffordshire Moorlands, then look no further."

Ornua produces and packs butter and cheese into a range of formats – blocks, grated and slices – which is then sold into major supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Iceland, as branded or own-label cheese.

It is also home to the Kerrygold and Pilgrims Choice brands.

The company's recruitment drive comes as it announces a 'significant step forward in its sustainability journey' as it introduces more environmentally-friendly, fully recyclable packaging for its Pilgrims Choice brand.

Working in partnership with Wipak UK Ltd, Ornua's new packaging will deliver a 48 per cent carbon footprint reduction and a 15 per cent material saving compared to the old pack.

It can also be fully recycled via return-to-store schemes and is certified by the On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) scheme.

The new Pilgrims Choice 180g extra mature and 150g medium grated cheese packs will start appearing on shelves this month.

Kerry Alexander, brand director for Ornua Foods UK said: "Following on from the launch of our 'Less Plastic, More Fantastic' Pilgrims Choice Megablock, a first-of-its-kind block cheese pack which delivered a 40 per cent reduction in plastic, we wanted to make a similar step change when it came to our grated cheese packaging.

"The new Pilgrims Choice grated packs deliver significant environmental benefits without compromising on form and functionality."

Kerry added: "At Pilgrims Choice we believe that even the smallest developments can make a big difference and our new, more sustainable, grated cheese packs are another essential step forward in supporting consumers to make positive environmental changes."
