As the Los Angeles wildfires continue to ravage the area, many residents are facing the difficult decision of whether to evacuate or stay behind to protect their homes. Vanessa Prata and her family chose to remain in their Altadena home, despite the approaching flames. They packed their car with irreplaceable items and stayed to defend their property.

While their neighborhood was surrounded by destruction, the Pratas' home miraculously survived. Vanessa and her father took it upon themselves to check on their neighbors' homes, providing updates to those who had evacuated to shelters.

The wildfires in Los Angeles have burned an area larger than San Francisco, resulting in tens of thousands of evacuation orders and the destruction of over 12,000 structures. The Department of Defense has made emergency shelters available, with more than 1,000 beds ready for those in need.

Vanessa, a nursing student, witnessed the flames approaching her home and made the decision to stay and help her family protect their property. Despite the power outage, they worked through the night to defend their home from the encroaching fire.

In the aftermath of the wildfires, Vanessa saw the community come together to support those who had lost their homes. Donations poured in, including food, clothing, and pet supplies. Vanessa offered to drive around and take pictures of homes for those who were unable to return due to evacuation orders.

Accompanied by her father, Vanessa visited numerous homes in the area, discovering that less than half were still standing. The devastation was palpable as they witnessed the ruins of once-beautiful homes reduced to ashes.

Despite the heartbreaking scenes, Vanessa's nursing background equipped her to handle the emotional toll of delivering such news to homeowners. She found solace in being part of the community effort to support those affected by the wildfires.

Volunteers flocked to donation centers to offer their assistance, showcasing the resilience and unity of the community in the face of tragedy. Vanessa expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and the collective effort to help those in need.
