Community pub closes just 18 months after six-figure transformation

A community pub in Kingswood has closed suddenly just 18 months after a huge six-figure transformation. The parent company of The Cossham Arms on Charlton Road has said it is working hard to reopen the pub as soon as possible.

Formerly The Warwick Arms, it has been a pub for more than 100 years and has always been at the heart of the community. The building - which is owned by Chester-based Admiral Taverns - was completely gutted in 2021 and reopened under the new name following a £110,000 investment.

The pub was bought in 2020 by two friends who fulfilled a long-held dream of taking on their own local. Ahead of reopening, Dan Finn and Sam Horrell told BristolLive in December 2021 they wanted the new name - the Cossham Inn - to signal a fresh start. It was formerly managed by Laura Robins and Rikki Wyatt.

Speaking on the closure in May this year, a spokesperson at Admiral Taverns said: "We are working hard to reopen the pub as soon as possible to ensure it can remain at the heart of the community."

Admiral Taverns is seeking an initial £13,000 investment from the new tenant and an annual rent of £27,500, which also includes three-bedroom staff accommodation above the bar. The community pub group owns around 1,600 predominantly wet-led community pubs.

The bar area houses a pool table and darts board which are both available to local sports teams and lends itself well to the hosting of entertainment, such as live music, karaoke and comedy nights. The listing states that television screens featuring live SKY and BT sports are also available and the different zoned areas enable the pub to host multiple activities simultaneously, ensuring a diverse and friendly community atmosphere throughout.
